Australia are the current and last Tri-Nations Champions with victories over both South Africa and New Zealand in 2011. This competition is now going to be re-named The Championship and Argentina will join the party later this year. Under Kiwi coach Robbie Deans they have prospered possessing, as they do, probably the best back line in the world. Kurtley Beale, James O’Connor, Quade Cooper and Will Genia are true rugby superstars all with one problem in common – can they get enough ball? The Aussies have been notoriously weak in the front five but the likes of James Slipper, captain James Horwill and Ben Alexander are attempting to change all that. If the Wallabies can get their share of possession it could be a long afternoon for England.

The World Champions are in town on 1st December anxious to put one over England, having not met in the World Cup last Autumn. Dan Carter and Richie McLaw are true icons of the game and are expected to be very much to the fore at Twickenham. However, the real strength of the All Blacks is their depth – great players all over the field like Conrad Smith, Ma’a Nonu, Zac Guildford and Sonny Bill Williams in the backs and hard men up front like Kieran Read and Kevan Mealamu. New Head Coach, Steve Hansen, takes over from Sir Graham Henry so expect more of the same as the former was a member of the World Cup winning coaching team. England will have a mountain to climb.

The Springboks, 2007 World Champions, welcome a new coach to the international arena in former Leicester mentor Heyncke Meyer. He made his name with the great Blue Bulls side who have carried all before them during the last decade. The legendary second row forward, Victor Matfield, has retired but great players like Schalk Burger (a favourite to become new captain); Butch James (formerly of Bath) and Bryan Habana still remain. Habana, reputed to be the fastest winger in the world, is currently being tried out at centre by his club, Stormers, and what an explosive selection that could be at international level. There are no easy games against the Springboks and this autumn clash will be no exception.
